For future quantum technologies, no individual, isolated approach meets all the stringent criteria for practical applications. Hybrid quantum systems aim to combine complementary strengths of different single systems, while at the same time avoiding individual shortcomings. The main goal of this project is the quantum-acousto-mechanical control of single electron spin quantum bits (qubits) in diamond by a radio frequency surface acoustic wave (SAW). We will design and fabricate advanced hybrid SAW devices on diamond enabling for quantum control over the orbital and spin degrees of freedom of NV centers.
