High intraocular pressure appears to be one of the main causes of glaucoma, and understanding of the intraocular pressure is crucial for the treatment of this disease. At UCSD, a miniaturized pressure sensor has been developed in the Talke-lab, based on interferometry, to determine the intraocular pressure after implantation of the sensor in the eye. The proposed project is concerned with the development of an internet-enabled, smartphone-based pressure measurement system for the analysis of the images from the intraocular pressure measurement. The pressure measurement system will feature a smartphone for data taking, and a smartphone-based app using machine learning and Artificial Intelligence algorithms, for evaluating the sensor images. The measurement system will permit remote testing and evaluation of the eye pressure by a patient, in his home.
